Verdant Minerals Ltd proposes to develop the Ammaroo Phosphate Project, located on Ammaroo Station approximately 220km south east of Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory. The Ammaroo Phosphate project will include an open cut mining operation and associated flotation beneficiation plant and mine site infrastructure to produce up to 2 million tonnes per annum of phosphate rock concentrate for export to regional phosphate fertiliser manufacturers. It is proposed that the product will be transported to the Adelaide to Darwin Railway via a purpose built 100 kilometre rail spur. Following referral to the Commonwealth Department of Environment and Energy (the Department) the Project was determined to be a controlled action under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) requiring Assessment by Preliminary Documentation. The controlling provisions for the action under the EPBC Act are Sections 18 & 18A (Listed threatened species and communities). In accordance with Section 95A(3) of the EPBC Act, the public were invited to comment on the referral documentation and additional information related to the proposed action for a period of 10 business days from 31st January 2018. One (1) public submission was received. In accordance with Section 95B(2) of the EPBC Act, documents relating to the proposal, including a response from Verdant Minerals Ltd to the public comments, are being published for further 10 business days from 27th March 2018 to 11th April 2018 (inclusive) for public information.
