15 School Leaver Program Although cost cutting measures were announced in July, 1986 Government maintained its commitment to the School Leaver Program with 293 students being placed in positions within the Northern Territory Public Service - 4 per cent of these were Aboriginal people. The number of Aboriginal people declined due to the successful Group Intake Scheme. The Northern Territory Finance and Administration Scholarships continued during 1986/87 with 46 new offers and 72 continuing students. Redeployment The Public Service Commissioner's Office maintains a record of staff available for redeployment by category and advises Departments of details of those employees. Chief Executive Officers are responsible for advising those employees for whom redeployment is required and appropriate Unions are advised. With the Administrative Arrangements Order of 19 March 1987, some 300 staff were anticipated to be in excess of requirements, but this are not eventuate. 172 were identified as potentially excess at the end of June. Procedures to cater for potentially excess employees were established in consultation with industrial organisations, with full regard to the needs, expectations and rights of employees. Establishment The Establishment Section handles all submissions from Departments and Authorities that seek to vary establishment and records variations to existing organisational structures.
