19 The General Orders and Guidelines will be consolidated and distributed to assist and guide Public Sector organisations in the development of appropriate policies and procedures for implementation early in 1988. In addition to the work done on the General Orders and Guidelines, the Director conducted seminars in Alice Springs and Darwin on sexual harassment in the work place. The Department of Education was particularly active in this regard recognising its responsibilities for providing education services which incorporate equal opportunity for all students and staff. Community Education The year was an active one for community education. There was a marked increase in requests from Government Departments, Educational Institutions, Clubs and Associations for information and assistance and for staff to attend and address meetings and seminars on equal opportunity principles. The followxng list gives an indication of seminars/workshops conducted during the year. Tourism & Hospitality trainees - Darwin Institute of Technology Academic Staff - Darwin Institute of Technology Correctional Services Staff - Alice Springs Institute of Aboriginal Development - Alice Springs Catholic Women's Group - Darwin Health & Community Services - Berrimah Police Centre Institute of Professional Secretaries - Darwin The Office has geared itself for a full community education program and will adopt a proactive stance, for the ensuing year. Complaints and Enquiries In the year ending 30 June 1987 there were 78 complaints and enquiries brought to the Office. These emanated from both the public and private sectors but most came from public servants. Conferences The Director attended two National conferences held in the 1986/87 year. The first was held in Canberra in October 1986. The conference discussed the Legislative and Award Restrictions to Women's Employment. The conference was convened by the Office of the Status of Women in Association with Worksafe Australia - the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission.
