36 EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING DIVISION The Employment and Training Division impinges on both the private and public sector industries and has the responsibility to promote the development of a skilled labour force in the Northern Territory. The Division plays an important role in the promotion and implementation of apprenticeship trades and encourages special training needs to enable employment opportunities in Industry. It conducts relevant research to assess the future needs for skilled and semi-skilled labour in the workforce and monitors industry training needs and the standard of training that is provided. In addition, the Division provides organisational, financial, advisory and supervisory support functions for training initiatives by Industry and promotes rapid adoption of technological changes within industry sectors through training support for more efficient management and work practices. Support is also given to Technical and Further Education (TAFE) initiatives in increasing participation in Vocational, Trade and Middle Level Occupational courses and in achieving qualitative improvements in such courses through curriculum development and training development systems. Legislation The Division is responsible for the administration of the Industry and Employment Training Act and Regulations. Advisory Committee Responsibilities As Employment and Training impacts on both the private and public sectors and is responsive to a wide range of issues both on a local and national level the Division has representation on the following private/public sector organisational committees. Industry and Employment Training Advisory Committee (IETAC) Commonwealth and State Training Advisory Committee (COSTAC) Aboriginal Employment and Training Advisory Committee (AETAC) Technical and Further Education Advisory Council (TAFEAC) Business Education Council Northern Territory Confederation of Industry and Commerce Training Committee Work Skill Australia Industry Training Committees - Fishing, Retail, ' Automotive, Local Government, Tourism, Construction, Manufacturing Industries.
