- 1 7 PROTOCOL AND PUBLIC RELATIONS BRANCH The functions of this Branch are to: organise ceremonial, hospitality and public relations activities involving the Chief Minister; advise and assist other Government Ministers and their Departments and Authorities with ceremonial and hospitality functions; advise on protocol matters; produce information-type publications; provide Government media liaison services for local, national and overseas media; maintain and operate the Media Communications Centre for counter-disasters and emergencies; and administer the V.I.P. car fleet and its drivers. During the year the Branch co-ordinated the arrangements for 51 official visits, of which 27 were of diplomatic status. Of particular significance were the visits of His Holiness Pope John Paul II on 29 November 1986, the Governor-General of Australia, the Rt. Hon. Sir Ninian Stephen and Lady Stephen, 6 to 10 September 1986, and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and Prince Henrick, 7 and 8 February 1987. Other visitors of note were His Excellency Mr Dong Won Lim, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, 7 to 12 July 1986 and an ASEAN Journalists Group, 24 to 27 April 1987.
