Northern Territory of Australia Lands Acquisition Act Section 44(3A) STATEMENT OF REASONS FOR ACQUISITION On 6 June 2000, I, TIMOTHY DENNEY BALDWIN, Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, certified, pursuant to section 44(3A) of the Lands Acquisition Act in respect of a compulsory acquisition of the land as set out in the Schedule, that having regard to the urgency of the case, it was not practical to delay the acquisition until after the pre-acquisition procedures in part IV or IVA (as applicable) have been complied with. In accordance with section 44, I now provide a statement of the reasons for the acquisition: Construction of the AustralAsia Railway project is due to commence this year. It is necessary for secure title to be granted over the whole of the railway corridor now, so that the Asia Pacific Transport Consortium and relevant financial institutions have adequate time to complete their due diligence. In my opinion, it was not practical to delay the acquisition until after the pre-acquisition procedures have been complied with. SCHEDULE All interests, excluding native title rights and interests (if any), in proposed NT Portion 5621 (S98/237) containing an area of 10 hectares more or less and being part NT Portion (Murranji). g ig 12000
