Northern Territory of Australia Lands Acquisition Act Section 44(3A) STATEMENT OF REASONS FOR ACQUISITION On 6 June 2000, I, TIMOTHY DENNEY BALDWIN, Minister for Lands, Planning and Environment, certified, pursuant to section 44(3A) of the Lands Acquisition Act in respect of a compulsory acquisition of the land as set out in the Schedule, that having regard to the urgency of the case, it was not practical to delay the acquisition until after the pre-acquisition procedures in part IV or IVA (as applicable) have been complied with. In accordance with section 44, I now provide a statement of the reasons for the acquisition: Construction of the AustralAsia Railway project is due to commence this year. It is necessary for secure title to be granted over the whole of the railway corridor now, so that the Asia Pacific Transport Consortium and relevant financial institutions have adequate time to complete their due diligence. In my opinion, it was not practical to delay the acquisition until after the pre-acquisition procedures have been complied with. All interests, excluding native title rights and interests (if any), in all those pieces or parcels of land identified as part NT Portions 695 and 1344 (Ban Ban Springs) containing an area of 111.4 hectares more or less as described in the following schedule: NT Portion 5382 S97/224 C NT Portion 5384 S97/224 D NT Portion 5376 S97/228 D NT Portion 5378 S97/228 E NT Portion 5368 S97/230 E NT Portion 5369 S97/230 F NT Portion 5371 S97/230 F NT Portion 5372 S97/230 G SCHEDULE (J! /2000
