ANOTHER EVENT WHICH HAS BECOME A REGULAR FEATURE OF THE EXPO CALENDAR IS THE HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL DARWIN PRESS CLUB TRADE MINISTERS LUNCHEON. THIS YEAR, THE FUNCTION ATTRACTED MORE THAN 250 GUESTS. DURING MY SPEECH TO THE FUNCTION, I REAFFIRMED THE NORTHERN TERRITORYS FRIENDSHIP WITH OUR ASIAN NEIGHBOURS AND THAT OUR RELATIONSHIPS ARE FOR THE LONG-TERM. 16 IN KEEPING WITH THE TERRITORY WIDE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE EVENT, AND MY RESPONSIBILITIES AS MINISTER FOR REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT, MY DEPARTMENT AGAIN PROVIDED A SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE FOR FOUR REGIONAL BUSINESSES TO PARTICIPATE IN NT EXPO. THESE BUSINESSES WERE SELECTED THROUGH AN EVALUATION PROCESS BY THE REGIONAL CHAPTERS OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY. THE WINNERS RECEIVED ASSISTANCE WITH AIRFARES, ACCOMMODATION AND HIRE CAR, FREIGHT, BOOTH HIRE AND INVITATIONS TO ALL NT EXPO FUNCTIONS. THIS REGIONAL SPONSORSHIP IS IMPORTANT AND PROVIDES A MARKETING AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY, WHICH THE SUCCESSFUL COMPANIES MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE BE ABLE TO MAKE.
