STRATEGIC PLAN [In this plan agencies or organisations playing a key role in implementation of an action are identified in the table at the end of this document.] Goal Achieve aquaculture production valued at $100M per year by 2003, with a 50% increase in employment in the industry. Objective Develop, in conjunction with industry, cost effective production systems appropriate to tropical aquaculture species in order to address identified market opportunities. Actions Development plans for each industry sector will be made to assist Government and industry work together in a constructive manner to achieve specific goals, identify areas where work is required and what action is required (Industry, DPIF, DISB). Research and Development on other tropical species eg high valued finfish, lobster, abalone. In conjunction with industry, prove up mud crab aquaculture on a commercial scale. Northern Territory will be promoted as a source of high quality seedstock for supply to Asia and northern Australia to overcome short to medium term problems in availability of land for aquaculture (Industry, DPIF, DART). Encourage, support and promote industry codes of practice and quality control processes such as development of HACCP plans to ensure the marketability of products (ASIC, Industry, DPIF).
