Arrernte Council of Central Australia P.O. Box 8828 Alice Springs N.T. 0871 Phone (089) 53 1533 55 0165 Fax (089) 52 6702 Ms Vicki Grieves ATSIC P.O. Box 17 WODEN A.C.T. RE: HEALTHY ABORIGINAL LIFE.TEAM (HALT) CENTRAL AUSTRALIA Dear Vicki, At the Arrernte Council of Central Australia's last Executive meeting held on Monday 7 May 1991, Ms Barbara Curr (consultant) attended on behalf of HALT and presented on overview of HALT's future direction's. The purpose of Barbara's attendance, was to gain support from the Arrernte Council for the programs being pressured by MALT. Our members are all too well aware of the many problems extending from substance abuse among Aboriginal people and in principle, we unanimously support programs/ initiatives aimed at combating these problems. However, the Council did have some concerns on the current status of HALT, as a private Company. On receiving assurances from Ms Curr, that HALT's future operations would be under the auspices of a properly registered Aboriginal incorporated body, the Arrernte Council declared that it will support the aims and objectives of HALT.
