C la ss if ic a tio n o f P u b lic a tio n s a n d F ilm s A m en d m en t A c t 1 9 9 3 T his Act com m enced on 1 May 1993, an d a lters the c lassifications of film s by the in troduction of a new category of M ature A udience (MA) for films an d videos u n su itab le for pe rsons u n d e r 15 years. The new MA category is restrictive. A film or video will be classified MA if it deals w ith m a tte rs of violence, sex or coarse language in su c h a m an n e r a s to m ake th e film u n su itab le for viewing by a person aged u n d e r 15 years. T h u s a child aged u n d e r 15 is no t to be perm itted to public sc reen ings of a film w ith a n MA classification u n less accom panied by h is /h e r p a re n t or g u a rd ian . In resp ec t of videos classified MA, they are no t to be h ired , sold or delivered to a person u n d er 15 years u n less the pe rson m ak ing the sale, h ire or delivery is the p a re n t or gu a rd ian of the child.
