The Public Sector M anagem ent C ourse h a s been developed a s a jo in t v en tu re betw een the C om m onw ealth, S ta te and T erritory G overnm ents a n d the T rade Union M ovement. In the N orthern T erritory it is m anaged by th e Local M anagem ent G roup and chaired by the D irector, H um an R esource D evelopm ent Division, Office of the C om m issioner for Public E m ploym ent. The course coord inator appo in ted from w ith in the Division is responsib le for day-to-day m anagem en t of the N orthern T erritory program . The course is a p ractical, professional m anagem ent, educa tion and tra in in g program for A ustra lia s public secto r m iddle m anagers in A dm inistrative Officer 6 to A dm inistrative Officer 8 o r equivalent p rofessional s tream s. The course is delivered th ro u g h o u t A u stra lia and is accred ited nationally th ro u g h Griffith University. W here possible, a ba lance of m ale an d female p a rtic ip a n ts will be m ain ta in ed an d equal considera tion will be given to officers from a non- E nglish speak ing background , from Aboriginal an d T orres S tra it Islander g roups an d officers w ith disabilities. T here are n ine w om en on the in au g u ra l 1993 program o u t of a to tal of tw enty-six p a rtic ip an ts . Executive M anagem ent Program The Executive M anagem ent Program , accredited th ro u g h the N orthern T erritory University, ta rge ts all em ployees a t the Executive Officer 1 and equivalen t professional levels an d above. The program s prim ary goal is to con tribu te to the developm ent of a team of sen io r executives w ith strong and stra teg ic leadersh ip qualities, who a re able to evaluate, energise and s tren g th en th e ir o rgan isations. Specifically the p rogram con tribu tes to: the ability of agencies to m eet th e objectives and priorities of the N orthern T erritory G overnm ent and th e creation of a pool of effective sen ior m anagers.
