M em bership of the Advisory Com m ittee includes N orthern T erritory an d C om m onw ealth rep resen ta tives an d two com m unity o rgan isations. The p rogram provides funding to: im prove h ea lth services for women; provide inform ation to w om en regard ing h ea lth issues; and provide con tinu ing educa tion an d tra in ing on w om ens h e a lth for h ea lth p rofessionals an d teachers. F un d in g for the program w as approved for four years in 1989-90, and approval h a s recently been given for the con tinua tion of th e program for an o th e r four years. F und ing in the first th ree years w en t to n o n governm ent o rgan isations w ith p a rticu la r em phasis on A boriginal health , an d in th e las t year of th e p rogram the m ajor em phasis of the funding h a s been on rem ote areas. C h ie f N u rsin g A d v ise r The Chief N ursing Adviser provides advice to the M inister for H ealth an d C om m unity Services an d the D epartm en t on n u rs in g issu e s an d the n u rs in g career s tru c tu re , and partic ipa tes in conferences a n d w orkshops in re la tion to n u rs in g roles an d functions. The Adviser is responsib le for cha iring the N urses B oard of the N orthern Territory. N u rsin g C o m p eten c ies The N orthern T erritory w as rep resen ted a t the A ustra lian N ursing R egistering A uthority 's w orkshop on N ursing C om petencies. Following th e w orkshop it w as decided th a t the N ursing C om petencies w ould be adop ted nationally .
