T hese com petencies are recognised by Com m onw ealth, S ta te an d T erritory governm ents an d the A ustra lian N urses Federation. They se t m in im um s ta n d a rd s of perform ance a t any given level of nu rsing . For exam ple, a newly g rad u a ted n u rse would be required to m eet a m in im um s ta n d a rd of com petency before she or he w as able to advance to the nex t level. In fo rm a tio n Inform ation is the key to successfu l p rim ary h ea lth care an d h a s been identified a s an a rea of priority by w om en th ro u g h o u t th e Territory. The an a ly sis of inform ation is a basic p re-requ isite for im proving program s, e n su rin g th a t services are being targeted to priority needs, an d for evaluation and research . An inform ation system is being devised th a t will include services m apping inform ation on a d a ta base , a s well a s socio-dem ographic and needs a sse ssm e n t com m unity data . Northern Territory W omen's Information Netw ork The N orthern Territory W om en's Inform ation Network (INFONET), w hich com m enced in m id 1993, is a Territory-wide inform ation system available to individuals, g roups an d h ea lth professionals w ith p a rticu la r em phasis u p o n the needs of rem ote areas. A 008 telephone n u m b er provides access to inform ation ab o u t services available th ro u g h o u t th e Territory, an d inform ation k its w hich are cu rren tly being developed will be available to borrow free of charge. The service will resou rce C om m unity C are an d H ealth C entres w ith regularly u p d a ted w om en s inform ation. A coord inato r and adm in istrative officer for th e service have been appoin ted . Alice Springs W omen's Information Service The W om ens Inform ation Service (WIS) in Alice Springs is located in the D epartm en t of H ealth an d C om m unity Services shopfront, Helm H ouse.
