R e p ro d u c tiv e H ea lth Birthing Services W omen have expressed the need for safe and cu ltu ra lly accep tab le b irth ing services a s an a lternative to hosp ita l care. A review of b irth in g services h a s been conducted to evaluate existing services an d identify gaps an d deficiencies. The report of the review will encom pass legal, financial, p rofessional an d clinical a sp ec ts rela ting to ch ildb irth , an d will include op tions available for wom en th ro u g h o u t pregnancy, delivery an d p o st-n a ta l care. The repo rt will be released by m id November 1993. M enopause C om m unity H ealth C en tres conduct regu la r program s on h e a lth is su e s assoc ia ted w ith m enopause and the ageing process. Reproductive M edicine Unit The Reproductive M edicine U nit provides investigative services an d app rop ria te trea tm en t for infertility problem s. In J u ly 1993, the first Invitro Fertilisation (IVF) clinic w as held in the N orthern Territory. The clinic w as conducted by REPROMED Pty Ltd, a com m ercial a rm of the Q ueen E lizabeth H ospital an d the Adelaide University. REPROMED will take over private reproductive m edical services in the T erritory and operate from the D arw in Private H ospital. The N orthern T erritory G overnm ent is negotiating w ith REPROMED for the provision of reproductive m edicine services, includ ing IVF, an d access for h ea lth care card holders for trea tm e n t a t the clinic.
