The flexibility to convert to cash a proportion of th e p laces offered, in o rder to develop innovative p rogram s to m eet the needs of ch ild ren d isadvan taged by the ir geographical location, an d th e ir com m unity 's econom ic and h ea lth s ta tu s . The adoption of p lann ing processes w hich recognise th e need for local com m unity consu lta tion and considera tion of b ro ad er needs ind ica to rs th a n u n d e r the previous strategy. Accreditation An In terim N ational Child Care A ccreditation Council (INAC) h a s been estab lish ed to develop and im plem ent an accred ita tion system for child care cen tres . It is an independen t in d u stiy -b ased body funded by the C om m onw ealth an d com prises m em bers who are rep resen ta tive of key in te re s ts w ith in the child care in d u stiy . The reg istra tion of child care cen tres , includ ing those in the N orthern Territory, will com m ence in J a n u a ry 1994. National Child Care S tandards N ational child care s ta n d a rd s have been approved by all M inisters responsib le . T hese s ta n d a rd s will be incorporated in to ind iv idual and S ta te an d T erritory legislation before D ecem ber 1996. The s ta n d a rd s provide the b asis for a na tional accred ita tion system for child care cen tres. Royal D arw in Hospital The C h ild ren 's Services B ureau , D epartm en t of H ealth a n d C om m unity Services, h a s issu ed a report on a survey of child care needs a t Royal D arw in an d D arw in Private H ospitals. S tra teg ies to a d d re ss th e needs identified in the repo rt are being developed.
