O utside School Hours Care The Social Welfare Com m onw ealth, S ta te an d Territory M inisters have agreed to investigate nationally co n sis ten t s ta n d a rd s for ou tside school h o u rs care. A proposal h a s been developed an d p resen ted to M inisters. Fam ily D ay Care Fam ily Day Care provides an a lternative to centre based care th ro u g h a netw ork of registered carers in Darwin, Ja b iru , T en n an t Creek, Alice Springs an d N hulunbuy . The service h a s been extended to P alm erston an d K atherine. A ccom m odation for P alm erston Fam ily Day C are is included in the new Woodroffe Child C are Centre, now com pleted an d due for occupancy by D ecem ber 1993. Palm erston and K atherine Fam ily Day C are Schem es have each increased by ten places from M arch 1993. Aboriginal Child Care T here are several m odels of child care services being developed for Aboriginal p a re n ts living in rem ote com m unities in th e N orthern Territory. They aim to provide functional m odels for service delivery. In Alice Springs the C entra l A ustra lian Aboriginal Child Care Agency offers services for all ch ildren from babies th rough to 17 years. T hese include foster care, care giving w ith in extended fam ily netw orks, em ergency, sh o rt an d long term care. The C entral A ustra lian Aboriginal C ongress offers a m ulti-function child care centre.
