R esearch on Child Care The V an Leer F oundation , an in te rn a tio n a l benevolent fund, estab lished to su p p o rt re sea rch projects on early childhood developm ent, h a s approved two p ro jects w hich have now com m enced. The first an d m ajor project is the provision of $960 000 over four years to B atchelor College to un d ertak e evaluation of the im pact of th e new A ssociate D iplom a an d Diplom a of E ducation (Early Childhood) courses, to develop netw orks betw een com m unities offering early childhood care p rogram s, to re sea rch an d identify th e u se of com m unication technology in su p p o rtin g service provision, and to fund th ree tu to r positions to su p p o rt s tu d e n ts of th e courses. The second pro ject is sponsored by the In stitu te of Aboriginal D evelopm ent in Alice Springs, w ith the aim of developing course c u rricu lu m m ateria ls in Aboriginal languages.
