A sen io r educa tion officer for the N orthern T erritory E ducation D ep artm en t w orked full-tim e on the developm ent of the S ta tem en t and th e Profile since 1991 and th is w ork concluded during 1993. The philosophies of inclusion un d erp in n in g the developm ent of the Science S ta tem en t have been p resen ted to a range of sta ff a t advisory, p rim ary an d secondary levels and a t w orkshop sess io n s a t the C onference of the Science T eachers' A ssociation in th e N orthern Territory. E quity (gender) in S e n io r S e c o n d a ry S ch o o l A sse s sm e n t P ro jec t The N orthern T erritory Board of S tud ies partic ipated in th e na tional (gender) Equity in Senior Secondary School A ssessm ent Project (ESSA) se t u p to analyse the perform ance of s tu d e n ts in publicly exam ined su b jec ts in th e ir final year of schooling. This project included an analysis of the re su lts of girls in English, M athem atics 1, 2, an d IS , C hem istry , Econom ics and Geography. In English , M athem atics IS , Econom ics and G eography th e re w as little difference in the partic ipa tion ra te s of m ale and fem ale s tu d e n ts . However, in M athem atics 1 and 2, the participa tion ra te of m ales w as
