A cen tra l e lem ent of aw ard re s tru c tu rin g h a s been th e M inim um R ates A d justm en t p rocess w hich e n su re s th a t m in im um wage ra te s for job classification th ro u g h o u t aw ards a re re la ted objectively on the b a s is of w ork value. Over th e la s t two y ears th e p rocess h a s provided an im p o rtan t m echan ism for dealing w ith underva lued wage ra tes . This h a s benefited w om en in a range of in d u s tr ie s includ ing child care, reta il an d hospitality . T he N o rth ern T e rr ito ry C h ild C are In d u s try A w a rd In S ep tem ber 1990, a new Federal Award w hich applied in the N orthern T erritory an d the A ustra lian C apital Territory w as s truck , offering child care w orkers a career s tru c tu re and m ore appropria te wage levels for th e responsib ilities held. The w ork value case p resen ted by the u n io n s w as su p p o rted by the full b en ch of the A rbitration C om m ission an d is a la n d m ark case. In th e N orthern Territory, th is Award h a s provided a fram ew ork for sa la ry -se ttin g in o ther a reas . Fam ily Day Care an d th e N orthern T erritory C hildren 's Services and Advisory Program have now been roped in u n d e r the Award.
