BUDGET STATEMENT T hrough the provision of a stab le econom ic env ironm ent w ith a growing econom y in the Territory, the G overnm ent is com m itted to c rea ting b e tte r em ploym ent oppo rtun ities for w om en an d th e ir fam ilies th u s enab ling them to im prove th e ir financial security an d independence. T his y ear the G overnm ent p resen ted for the first tim e th e docum en t 1993-94 W om en in the B udget as a rela ted budge t paper. W om en in the B udget is a docum en t w hich gives an overview of th e im pact of governm ent expend itu re specifically on w om en an d girls. It provides de ta ils on the full range of G overnm ent p rogram s, th e ir a im s an d objectives and , w here possible, ac tu a l expend itu re for 1992-93 an d the estim ated expend itu re for 1993-94. The docum en t co n ta in s a s ta te m e n t by each G overnm ent agency on the ex ten t to w hich its activ ities im pact u p o n w om en an d girls and the n u m b er of w om en (and th e ir classifications) em ployed by the agency. The docum en t also seeks to increase aw areness of th e im pact of G overnm ent expend itu re on the com m unity an d is a m ech an ism for identifying needs an d priorities, coordinating policies an d avoiding w aste by en su rin g every G overnm ent dollar is effectively spen t.
