Therefore, th e G overnm ent h a s im plem ented program s in an endeavour to en su re th a t w om en partic ipa te in the developm ent of policy an d decision m aking. C o m m o n w ea lth a n d S ta te M in is te rs C onference The in au g u ra l m eeting of the Com m onw ealth an d S ta te M inisters' Conference on the S ta tu s of W omen w as held in 1991. The N orthern T erritory is rep resen ted by the Chief M inister. The Conference h a s considered a wide range of issu es including: w orkers w ith fam ily responsib ilities; wom en as carers; wom en and m icro-econom ic reform ; w om en an d s tru c tu ra l ad ju stm en t; violence ag a in st wom en; and po rtraya l of w om en in the m edia. B i-partisan su p p o rt w as given by the C onference to the N ational S trategy on Violence A gainst W omen. W om en s A d v is e r s Q u a r te r ly M eetin gs The S tan d in g Com m ittee of C om m onw ealth an d S ta te W om en's A dvisers is a consu lta tive forum for stra teg ic d iscussion , exchange of inform ation an d coord ination of Com m onw ealth, S ta te and T erritory activities p e rta in in g to w om en. The S tand ing Com m ittee serves a s th e Officials G roup for th e C om m onw ealth an d S ta te M inisters' Conference on the S ta tu s of W omen.
