STRATEGIC GOAL To encourage the people of the Northern Territory to seek for themselves a healthy lifestyle and to participate in the development of a social infrastructure which will meet the needs of all groups in our diverse society. ROLE OF THE OFFICE The role of the Office of Sport, Recreation and Ethnic Affairs is to: * provide policy advice to the Minister * provide financial support to community organisations which encourage participation and pursuit of excellence in their respective fields. * educate the community regarding sport, recreation and ethnic affairs issues and provide training in specific areas. * consult with sport, recreation and ethnic affairs organisations on needs and appropriate directions for the development of services. * develop closer economic and cultural ties within Australia and overseas. * represent the Northern Territory Government on National, Territory and local bodies, and liaise with all levels of Government within the ambit of the Departments functions. * research and evaluate sport, recreation and ethnic affairs programs and services. 2
