We are currently assisting young Territorians to attend the institutions such as the National Institute of Dramatic Art to gain specialist training in their chosen art form, currently not available here in the Territory. Former Corrugated Iron Youth Theatre and Darwin Theatre Company member, Conrad Page is completing his third year at the Victorian College of Arts and the young Darwin percussionist with the DSO, lain Robbie, is in his second year of study at the WA Conservatorium of Music. lain was selected to play with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the NT Government was proud to provide assistance to enable him to tour recently with that prestigious orchestra to Europe and the United Kingdom. In the past, young people applying for assistance with interstate and overseas study have had to compete with others for funding through the Skills Development program. I consider this an unsatisfactory situation hence a special Arts Scholarship Scheme is being developed. 23
