5 THE OFFSHORE SITUATION IS INDEED INTERESTING. REGIONALLY AND GLOBALLY, THE MARKET POTENTIAL FOR UTILITY STANDARD RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS IS VAST. WE NEED ONLY TO LOOK AS FAR AS THE DEVELOPING COUNTRIES TO OUR NORTH. THE NATURE OF DEMAND FROM THE THOUSANDS OF ISLAND COMMUNITIES WITHOUT ADEQUATE ELECTRICITY SERVICES IN INDONESIA AND THE PHILIPPINES IS SUCH THAT CONVENTIONAL SUPPLY TECHNOLOGIES ARE OFTEN NOT PRACTICAL. THEIR PRIORITY IS FOR RELIABLE, STAND-ALONE SYSTEMS OF SIMILAR CONFIGURATION TO THE SYSTEMS NEEDED IN THE TERRITORY. SMALL ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES WHERE CLIMATIC, SOCIAL AND MARKET CONDITIONS REFLECT THOSE FOUND IN MOST DEVELOPING COUNTRIES ARE WIDESPREAD IN NORTHERN AUSTRALIA, WITH THE GREATEST CONCENTRATION BEING IN THE TERRITORY. I BELIEVE THIS PRESENTS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE TERRITORY TO USE ITS SPECIALISED REMOTE COMMUNITY SERVICING "KNOW HOW" TO ESTABLISH ITSELF AS A MAJOR PLAYER IN THE RENEWABLE ENERGY POWER SUPPLY INDUSTRY.
