6 THE AUTHORITY HAS TAKEN THE INITIATIVE BY USING REMOTE AREA COMMUNITIES TO DEMONSTRATE THE APPLICATION OF APPROPRIATE STAND ALONE, POWER GENERATION TECHNOLOGIES. THE SOLAR TEST PROGRAM AT JILKMINGGAN IS ONE EXAMPLE. THE PROJECT HAS GROWN IN POPULARITY WITH THE ABORIGINAL COMMUNITY OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS, AND IT IS NOW ATTRACTING SIGNIFICANT INTERNATIONAL ATTENTION. IN THE FIRST FOUR YEARS OF ITS OPERATION, JILKMINGGAN POWER STATION WAS OPERATED AS A SOLAR-DIESEL-BATTERY HYBRID POWER STATION. DURING THAT TIME PAWA OBSERVED THAT THE ULTRA VIOLET EXPOSURE, HUMIDITY AND HIGH AMBIENT TEMPERATURES AT JILKMINGGAN ARE AS DAUNTING TO A RENEWABLE ENERGY PRODUCT MANUFACTURER AS ARE THE CONDITIONS AT ANY LOCATION IN THE TROPICS. THAT MAKES THE SITE IDEAL FOR A SOLAR TESTING FACILITY. AND THAT IS WHAT THE AUTHORITY IS NOW DOING.
