IN TIME FOR THE INFLUX OF VISITORS EXPECTED DURING THE SYDNEY 2000 OLYMPICS. MR SPEAKER, IT IS NOT ONLY THE LARGER SYSTEMS THAT STAND TO BENEFIT FROM THE AUTHORITYS IMPROVED UNDERSTANDING OF RENEWABLE TECHNOLOGIES AND THEIR APPLICATION. INNOVATIVE SUPPLY OPTIONS ARE ALSO BEING INVESTIGATED FOR SMALLER REMOTE ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES, FOR CLIENTS SUCH AS THE TERRITORY PARKS AND WILDLIFE SERVICE AND FOR THE "STURT PLATEAU BEST PRACTISE GROUP", A GROUP OF 10 STATION OWNERS SOUTH OF KATHERINE. IN THE PROCESS, THE AUTHORITY IS DEVELOPING AN INTERNATIONAL REPUTATION FOR ITS UNDERSTANDING OF RENEWABLE ENERGY TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS AND FOR ITS OWN PIONEERING RESEARCH SUCH AS THE APSLEY STRAIT TIDAL PROJECT. THIS PROJECT IS A MARRIAGE OF THE AUTHORITYS NEEDS WITH THE ENGINEERING COMPETENCE OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY UNIVERSITY AS IS EVIDENCED BY ITS SUCCESSFUL INVOLVEMENT IN THE WORLD SOLAR CHALLENGE.
