1 FORMALLY LODGED A NOTICE OF INTENT WITH THE TERRITORY GOVERNMENT FOR DEVELOPMENT OF AN LNG PLANT AND SUBSEA PIPELINE. PHILLIPS PETROLEUM COMPANY, THROUGH A SUBSIDIARY COMPANY, PROPOSES TO CONSTRUCT AN ONSHORE LNG PLANT AND UNDERSEA PIPELINE AT A COST OF $1.9 BILLION. THE PROJECT WILL INVOLVE AN ESTIMATED CONSTRUCTION WORKFORCE IN EXCESS OF 1700 EMPLOYEES. THE NATURE OF THE PROJECT MEANS THAT SOME OF THE LARGER COMPONENTS WILL BE CONSTRUCTED IN MODULES ELSEWHERE, SO NOT ALL OF THESE JOBS WILL BE BASED IN THE TERRITORY. ONCE COMPLETE, THE LNG PLANT WILL PROVIDE EMPLOYMENT FOR 75 PERSONNEL. AS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THE PROJECT, PHILLIPS PROPOSES TO CONSTRUCT 470KM OF SUBSEA PIPELINE FROM THE BAYU-UNDAN FIELD TO THE LNG PLANT. TWO PROPOSED ROUTES FOR THE PIPELINE ARE CURRENTLY BEING EVALUATED, WITH THE COMPANYS PREFERRED OPTION BEING AN UNDERSEA PIPELINE DIRECT FROM THE GAS FIELD TO DARWIN HARBOUR. 3
