MR SPEAKER, STAGE ONE AT EAST ARM WILL PROVIDE BERTHING FACILITIES FOR THE HANDLING OF IMPORTED BULK DRY CARGOES SUCH AS CLINKER AND SULPHUR, AND IT IS INTENDED THAT RIG TENDER VESSEL SERVICING AND LIVE CATTLE SHIPMENTS WILL PRIMARILY BE CARRIED OUT IN THE NEW LOCATION. COMPLETION OF STAGE ONE WILL BE THE FIRST STEP IN DEVELOPING THE NEW PORT IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE MASTERPLAN WHICH WILL SEE THE EVENTUAL CONSTRUCTION OF MAJOR CONTAINER HANDLING FACILITIES AND THE TERMINAL OF THE ADELAIDE TO DARWIN RAILWAY. THESE CONTAINER FACILITIES WILL BE REQUIRED AT EAST ARM WHEN CONTAINER TRAFFIC OUTGROWS EXISTING PORT FACILITIES OR ALTERNATIVELY WHEN THE RAILWAY IS EXTENDED AND I AM SURE ALL HONOURABLE MEMBERS HOPE THIS WILL HAPPEN IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE.
