THE NTU NOW HAS A TOTAL STUDENT POPULATION IN EXCESS OF 12,000. I AM PLEASED TO SAY THAT IT HAS DEVELOPED INTO A MULTI-LEVEL, MULTI-PURPOSE INSTITUTION MEETING THE NEEDS OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY THROUGH UNDERTAKING ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH HIGHER EDUCATION AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING. IN THE INITIAL STAGES THE TERRITORY GOVERNMENT UNDERWROTE DEVELOPMENT.
