A CENTRE FOR INDIGENOUS NATURAL AND CULTURAL RESOURCE MANAGEMENT WILL BE ESTABLISHED IN 1997. AS WELL, MR SPEAKER, THE UNIVERSITY IS A PARTNER IN FIVE CO-OPERATIVE RESEARCH CENTRES, OR CRCS. IN MAY 1990, THE CRC PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT STRATEGIC RESEARCH IN THE NATIONAL INTEREST OF AUSTRALIA, THROUGH PROMOTING CO-OPERATION BETWEEN THE UNIVERSITY SECTOR, PUBLIC SECTOR, RESEARCH AGENCIES, BUSINESS AND INDUSTRY. THE NORTHERN TERRITORY UNIVERSITY IS A PARTICIPATING AGENCY IN THE FOLLOWING CRCS: CRC FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TROPICAL SAVANNAS CRC FOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM CRC FOR AQUACULTURE CRC FOR ABORIGINAL AND TROPICAL HEALTH AUSTRALIAN CRC FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY
