I AM DELIGHTED TO SAY, MR SPEAKER, THAT THE NTU WAS A LEAD AGENCY IN OBTAINING FUNDING FOR THE CRC IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TROPICAL SAVANNAS. THIS CRC DRAWS TOGETHER EXPERTISE ACROSS A RANGE OF RESEARCH DISCIPLINES FROM 17 RESEARCH AND LAND MANAGEMENT AGENCIES IN THE NORTHERN TERRITORY, NORTH QUEENSLAND AND WESTERN AUSTRALIA, AND ADDRESSES THE ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ISSUES RELATING TO THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION. COMMONWEALTH FUNDING, MR SPEAKER, FOR THIS CRC IS $16 MILLION DOLLARS OVER THE SEVEN YEAR PERIOD, WITH ADDITIONAL FINANCIAL AND IN-KIND SUPPORT FROM INDUSTRY AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS. THE NTU'S SUCCESS IN ITS COORDINATION OF THIS PROJECT REPRESENTS A REAL MARKER IN THE UNIVERSITY'S NATIONAL RESEARCH PROFILE. 26
