I AM TOLD, MR SPEAKER, THAT THE UNIVERSITY IS SETTING IN PLACE MECHANISMS TO ALLOW IT TO BE MORE RESPONSIVE IN ITS MANAGEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY'S INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES. MR SPEAKER, I WOULD NOW LIKE TO REPORT ON THE NTU'S RESPONSE TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S BUDGET REDUCTIONS IN HIGHER EDUCATION, AND THE NECESSARY ORGANISATIONAL CHANGES THAT THAT HAS BROUGHT ABOUT. LIKE UNIVERSITIES EVERY WHERE IN AUSTRALIA, MR SPEAKER, THE NORTHERN TERRITORY UNIVERSITY HAS HAD TO CARRY THE IMPACT OF A SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTION IN ITS BUDGET, DUE TO CHANGES IN FEDERAL FUNDING FOR HIGHER EDUCATION. AS WELL, THE UNIVERSITY HAS HAD TO RESPOND TO THE SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES IN THE VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING SECTOR, WHICH HAVE RESULTED IN A MORE COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENT.
