IN THE FEW YEARS SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT, THE UNIVERSITY HAS DEVELOPED A DISTINCTIVE RESEARCH PROFILE, REFLECTING THE BROAD RANGE OF RESEARCH INTERESTS OF STAFF AND FEATURING A NUMBER OF WELL RECOGNISED STRENGTHS AND PRIORITIES APPROPRIATE TO ITS LOCATION. THE UNIVERSITY'S GROWTH IN RESEARCH HAS BEEN EXTREMELY RAPID, AND OUTSTANDING WHEN ACCOUNT IS TAKEN OF THE INSTITUTION'S RELATIVELY SMALL SIZE. MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE UNIVERSITY IS A LEADER IN RESEARCH IN THE REGION. MR SPEAKER, THE GOVERNMENT IS VERY PLEASED THAT THE UNIVERSITY HAS FORGED CLOSE LINKS WITH THE COMMUNITY IT SERVES. SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY IS A PRINCIPAL VALUE UNDERPINNING THE UNIVERSITY'S MISSION, AND THE INSTITUTION'S ACADEMIC PROFILE IS BUILT AROUND COMMUNITY NEEDS. THE NTU IS NOW SEEN AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY COMMUNITY AND ENJOYS ENORMOUS AND GROWING SUPPORT.
