FURTHER, DURING 1997 STRATEGIC PLANS WILL BE REVIEWED ACROSS THE UNIVERSITY WITH A VIEW TO ENSURING IT IS IN THE BEST POSITION TO TAKE ON THE CHALLENGES OF THE FUTURE. MR SPEAKER, MEMBERS WILL BE AWARE THAT THE FEDERAL MINISTER FOR EDUCATION, SENATOR AMANDA VANSTONE, HAS ESTABLISHED A SEVEN PERSON COMMITTEE, CHAIRED BY MR RODERICK WEST, WITH THE WIDE BRIEF TO DRAW UP A BLUE PRINT FOR THE HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR OVER THE NEXT TWO DECADES. THE REVIEW IS EXPECTED TO LOOK AT A WIDE RANGE OF POLICY AND FUNDING ISSUES. MEMBERS WILL ALSO BE AWARE THAT THE ROLE OF VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING IN UNIVERSITIES HAS BEEN MOOTED AS ONE OF THE FOCUS AREAS FOR THE REVIEW.
