THIS PROJECT COST $4.3 MILLION DOLLARS. THE COMMERCIAL BUILDING WILL PROVIDE A REAL FOCUS FOR THE CAMPUS AND WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SOCIAL AND CULTURAL MATURITY OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY. AS WELL, EXISTING FACILITIES FOR THE STUDENTS' UNION AND STUDENT SPORTING FACILITIES WERE UPGRADED. MR SPEAKER, PART OF THE MASTER PLAN WAS THAT THE UNIVERSITY WOULD EVENTUALLY VACATE THE MYILLY POINT SITE. THIS WILL NOW BE POSSIBLE BY JULY 1997, WHEN FURTHER MAJOR BUILDING PROJECTS WILL BE COMPLETED. THIS TWO STOREY BUILDING, SITUATED ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE UNIVERSITY STRAND, WILL FEATURE A LANDSCAPED ATRIUM AS WELL AS PERIPHERAL LANDSCAPING UTILISING A DONATION TO THE FACULTY OF VARIOUS CYCADS. THIS PROJECT HAS COST $11 MILLION DOLLARS.
