Sponsored and participated in the "National Eco Tourism Conference" which was held in Alice Springs during 1995. The Commission also provided rebate incentives for 7 Northern Territory operators who attended. Invited a range of expert speakers/operators focusing on Safari Camp Wilderness Lodge design and planning techniques who inspected various properties and briefed 13 Northern Territory operators. This was followed by workshops in Darwin which were attended by 27 people. Currently in progress is a visitation to Safari Camp sites for individual briefings followed by a series of workshops by Mr lan Player, a noted South African Wilderness Consultant and Safari operator. A survey of Northern Territory Hunting Safari operators was undertaken including meetings with the Northern Lands Council, the Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife Commission and the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, resulting in a database and the production and distribution of a fact sheet (a first) for 12 Northern Territory safari hunting operators. Preparation of a new Northern Territory Aboriginal Culture brochure was commenced with production scheduled for 1996/97. Development of a "Guide to the International Market", 500 copies of which were sent out to tour operators and accommodation houses. Active support for the Bed and Breakfast sector with the publication of a first dedicated B & B brochure with 9 products listed. T A R G E T S F O R 1 9 9 6 / 9 7 Establish a Working Party to advise on and implement the Northern Territory Aboriginal Tourism Strategy. Contribute and where appropriate, implement projects identified in the Tourism Development Masterplan and associated Region(s) Tourism Development Plans. Assist operators to develop special interest tourism products. Implement A Strategy for the Tourism Drive Market. Develop Exploring the Alice trails with appropriate interpretative and directional signs and producing 6 theme brochures. Stimulate private investment in appropriate tourism infrastructure.
