37DEET Annual Report 2005-06Employment (Regulation of Occupational Health and Safety) > Employment Figure 15 Number of workplace inspections by industry Source: DEET NT WorkSafe Workplace inspections conducted in 2005-06 increased in all industry sectors except for Electricity and Gas, Public Administration and Defence and Personal and Other Services industries. A more strategically targeted program for the construction industry resulted in an increase in workplace inspections from 1 460 in 2004-05 to 1 815 in 2005-06. For 2005-06, NT WorkSafe issued: 34 advisory notes 49 improvement notices giving businesses seven or more days to rectify an identified problem (all businesses complied) 47 infringement notices - up from 7 in 2004-05 54 prohibition notices in life threatening or other potentially serious injury situations. NT WorkSafe officers have used a range of strategies to achieve workplace compliance, such as increasing the emphasis on cooperative agreements with contractors and issuing various notices and work site closures.
