20 FRONTIER FASHION & BEAUTY SUNDAY NOVEMBER 5 2017 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 Territory rig CLEAN OUT THE COBWEBS Saying goodbye to clothes you no longer need can be a cathartic experience plus, if you play it right, it can make you a bit of cash georgina mollard georgina murphy Fashion M ost shopaholics like a bargain. Its a way of buying more with less. Faced with full wardrobes (read: bursting) and the prospect of a few extra dollars, some friends and I got our retail on and hit The Closet Cleanout at Stuart Park last weekend. We rolled our suitcases full of preloved items and our clothing racks on wheels into what we believed to be prime real estate of a shared space and set up our stall. Long story short, we probably shed half of our wares for the day. We sold everything from beach dresses to ball gowns, millinery to miniskirts and denim to things that are perhaps best described as did I really think Id ever wear that? It was a fun, productive and profitable exercise. It was almost cathartic in it was cleansing too. Never mind Sunday mass, spirituality for shoppers was found in that cleanse of a clean out. The leftovers? Well, some are back in my cupboard. Others have been rehomed, via local second hand stores. But its probably also time to admit that perhaps my wardrobes still need a bit of attention. For example, if the Top End ever welcomes a blizzard and snow, Ill be prepared because I have a faux fur or two lingering for the next opportunity to strike like a polar bear. And gumboots in zebra print. And a pair the same as Princess Kate has. Last worn at an equestrian event. In 2014. In Victoria. A closet cleanse got me to thinking about the best ways to be getting the best out of your wardrobe, so heres my tips for Zen. ARRANGE: Things not worn often (eg winter clothing) can be stored out of sight its taking up precious real estate if its hanging (literally) out where your summer threads could be. DISPLAY: Research (mine) shows that if its easy to access your accessories, youre more likely to wear them. FIT N FIX: Doesnt fit? Get it repaired or get rid of it. DONATE: Find the pieces you dont need and ensure theyre in great condition. Drop them at your local opshop or gift them to someone you know who will appreciate them. DOLLARS: For pricier items, take advantage of consignment stores or second hand pages on social media to onsell. Beware the bargain hunter they like to haggle. F enty Beauty is fitting to have us all broke! Rihanna has launched a stunning beauty line available from Sephora. This stunning collection was seen first at New York Fashion Week. The 40 shades of foundation are a big part of the inclusivity Rihanna envisioned for her brand. There is a shade to suit every skin tone, from the pinkest white tones to the darkest blue toned skin. Fenty Pro Filtr Soft Matte Longwear Foundation Gives the skin an instantly smooth, pore diffused and shine free finish. It is oil free and is made with a climate adaptive technology that is resistant to humidity. I love this foundation but would not recommend it to someone who has dry skin. For us in Darwin we dont have the luxury to pop into a Sephora to get colour matched, but now Sephora has come up with a genius way for us to colour match. Once you click on the brand of foundation you want, just press find my match. This will give you the option to put in what brand and shade you are currently using. The system will match your current foundation perfectly to the new foundation you want to buy. Not only are the foundations amazing but the new Galaxy Eyeshadow Palette is limitededition. This glitter eyeshadow has a palette of 14 star-dusted shades designed to accessorise any eye look. This is a perfect Christmas festive palette with hyper reflective sparkles. From smoky to iridescent violets, this palette is like jewellery for your eyes. For me, Im usually not a glitter girl, but this palette is so unique the glitter is so soft and reflective on your eye. They are designed to add an extra gleam on top of your look so these are more glitter and less pigment. The packaging is to die for this is my favourite purchase this year. emma crilly Beauty EYES ON THE PRIZE A new range of beauty products helmed by Barbados pop princess Rihanna have hit the market, and are among the best youre likely to find this year. Become a convert and get the look! Its the perfect time of year to clean out the cupboard but where do you start? Pop goddess Rihanna
