Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to aweek-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSESWigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the clubwanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing withmatch officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where andwhen captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. Darwin's Rhys Barden on his way to winning the tumbling level 6 discipline. Picture: JAYDE MARTIN Gymnasts wow friendly crowd MORE than 300 gymnasts from six Territory clubs competed in the 2017 NT Gymnastics Championships at Marrara over the weekend. The competition was intense as the four Darwin and two Alice Springs clubs provided a treat for the hundreds of spectators as Mens (MAG) and Womens Artistic Gymnastics (WAG), Acrobatic and Rhythmic and Tumbling went through their paces. Add the cheerleading and rhythmic displays and a bit of fun with the Gym for All competition yesterday morning where more than 40 youngsters gave gymnastics a try and the sport got a big thumbs up from those in attendance. Rhys Barden (pictured) took out the tumbling level 6 competition with a score of 90.1, the first time tumbling has been on the competition agenda in the NT. Amelia Pollen, the NTs highest competing womens gymnast wowed the crowd yesterday afternoon with her level 8 routines. We look forward to seeing Amelia compete again next May at the Australian Gymnastics Championships at Hisense Arena in Melbourne, Gymnastics NT executive officer Jayde Martin told the NT News. The vibe at this years championships was fantastic and inspired the gymnasts, who produced some great results in front of a judging panel comprising local and interstate officials. All MAG and WAG results from the weekend can be found on the Beyond the Scores app and results from other gymsports can be found in the coming week on the Gymnastics NT website or Facebook page along with numerous videos and photos from the event. Smiling Froome eyes double triumph CHRIS Froome is poised to break his streak of runner-up finishes at the Spanish Vuelta after the Tour de France champion maintained his overall lead on Saturday. Froome increased his advantage over Vincenzo Nibali through the rainy 117.5-kilometre stage 20 from Corvera de Asturias to a gruelling summit finish at the Alto de lAngliru. Dominant at the Tour in recent years, Froome has finished the Vuelta as runner- up on three occasions. He came in behind Juanjo Cobo in 2011, Alberto Contador in 2014, and Nairo Quintana last year. Barring a mishap or accident, Froome will become only the third rider to complete the Tour-Vuelta double in the same season. Jacques Anquetil (1963) and Bernard Hinault (1978) achieved the feat when the Vuelta was still held in the spring before the Tour. Set to finally claim an elusive Vuelta title, Froome allowed himself a huge smile as he crossed the finish line. The British rider extended his lead of 1 minute, 37 seconds at the start of the day to 2:15 ahead of Nibali. Its an absolutely incredible feeling. What a way to end such a massive three weeks of racing, having completed the Tour-Vuelta double, Froome said. Contador, who will retire after the race, won the stage with an attack from distance to put a fine finish to a career that has included seven grand tour wins, including three Vueltas.
