Description
For Department of Planning and Infrastructure,
Abstract
This report describes an investigation of eight potential pavement basecourse gravel areas, located adjacent to the Litchfield Park Road, between the Cox Peninsula Road intersection and chainage 14km. The aim of this work was to assess the insitu materials to determine whether they would be suitable for use as sealed basecourse material. Sealed basecourse quality gravel is required to enable the first 9km of the Litchfield Park Road to be upgraded to sealed standard. The scope of work involved excavating test pits by backhoe, visual logging of soil profiles to Department standards, mapping, sampling for laboratory testing and reporting. Due to time constraints, only limited work was carried out in each area. - Summary Further sampling and testing of bulk samples was undertaken to determine if lime stabilisation of the insitu gravel would improve the plasticity and bearing capacity of the materials sufficiently so that it could be used as sealed base course material. Sampling was undertaken on 7 June 2007. - pART 2.,
