Milners Ponds The McArthys Tour vehicles and some of the tourists standing about near gum trees with the McCarthys, Milners Pond. Jack McCarthy or Irish Mac immortalised in Jeannie Gunn's 'We of the Never Never',was a carter who plied out of Elsey Station. He together with his wife, a former hotel proprietor from Thursday Island of Irish descent, settled at Milner's Bore or Pond out of Newcastle Waters where they raised cattle and peanuts on a small holding. In a newspaper article by Ernestine Hill, July 1934, she notes that Jack died two months earlier suggesting that this photograph was taken about 1933-4.,
