Stuart, who left Parramatta to coach the Raiders after the sacking of David Furner, has wasted no time stamping his authority on his new team, training them in 40C heat and sending them to aweek-long elite training camp. The former NSW and Australia coach has seen big potential for McCrone at hooker. Faith inMoses to deliver title MOSESWigness has taken over the reins again at Brothers Rugby League club for the 2014 season. Wigness, who coached the club for three years and won the 2010 and 2011 premierships, replaces Anthoiny Castro who had held the position for the past two seasons. The clubs seniors sign-on day is at Airport Tavern today from 1pm. Brothers spokesman John Adams said the clubwanted to regain the premiership that they lost to Palmerston last year. New rules to endmass debates MANLY coach Geoff Toovey says captain Jamie Lyon wont have to change his on-field approach to referees despite recent NRL rule changes. Lyon and Canterburys Michael Ennis are seen as two of the games leading debaters when it comes to arguing withmatch officials. But they are set to be stymied by a new law that limits where andwhen captains can speak to refs. Under new rules captains will only be able to speak to refs during a stoppage in play. Lachlan schooled by Shark RUGBY LEAGUE ByDOUGBOOTH MacKillop Sharks centre Levi Russell with student Lachlan Miller at the merger announcement yesterday Picture: JUSTIN SANSON LACHLAN Miller wants to play senior rugby league when he grows up. The MacKillop Catholic College student discovered plenty of ways to help him reach that goal from the now MacKillop Sharks hardtackling centre Levi Russell yesterday. Lachlan, 13, and Russell, 22, were integral parts of the launch to merge the Sharks with the Palmerstonbased college. I like rugby league because of the teamwork that is involved in playing, said Lachlan, who has been playing the game for four years. It is not just a one-man game. I like running with the ball and scoring tries. Russell said young players such as Lachlan were the future of the 13-a-side game. We are looking for a premiership this season and building links such as this is vital for the future, he said. College principal Loretta Graham said MacKillop was trying to build a community spirit through sporting organisations and this was another step forward. David Graham is the Year 8 music co-ordinator at MacKillop but his other passion is rugby league. Growing up in Cairns, he played his first rugby league in Queensland and last year he was with the Palmerston Raiders. However, as the brainchild behind the merger of the school and club, he has new allegiances. The Palmerston demographic is much different to Darwin, Graham said. Queensland and NSW influence the culture. Graham said the merger would help provide a grassroots pathway that had not existed before in rugby league in the Northern Territory. It is important that we try and bridge the gap between school and club, he said. The Sharks will hold their senior sign-on at Mary MacKillop School today from 10am. Read an exclusive interview with Darwins Joel Romelo in tomorrows SundayTerritorian. PADRAIG Harrington and Sergio Garcia have never seen eye-to-eye. The Ryder Cup teammates cracked the European Tour around the same time in the late 90s and their rivalry was forged over some great battles in the majors, won by Harrington. But the beef, at least from Irishman Harringtons perspective, stems mostly from the fact they are complete opposites as golfers and people. His is a very flamboyant game, everything comes easy, Harrington said this week as he reflected on Garcias drought-breaking Masters win. There were periods he never practiced. We were such opposites. I worked at it, grinded it out. Got the best out of it. Im very strong on the etiquette of the game, so I dont tolerate people spitting in the hole, throwing their shoes or throwing golf clubs. Harrington believes it was the peak of his own career when Garcia really showed his true colours. The Spaniard finished runner-up to Harrington in two of the Irishmans three major triumphs at the 2007 British Open and the 2008 PGA Championship and did not take it well. I gave him every out I possibly could at the 2007 Open. I was as polite and generous as I could be, but he was a sore loser, Harrington said. Harrington lifts lid on feud with Garcia Australias Destanee Aiava returns against Mona Barthel Picture: MICHAEL KLEIN Barty backs dashing tyro AUSTRALIAN young gun Ash Barty has backed emerging Victorian talent Destanee Aiava to deliver in her first Fed Cup tie in green and gold. Aiava, 16, was this week selected to make her debut when Australia takes on Serbia in Zrenjanin from next Saturday. And shes got the mettle, according to her new teammate, who admitted she wouldnt want to be at the other end of the court to face the big-hitting teenager. This is a really exciting for us moving forward, Barty said. Destanee is a fantastic addition. Shes got some real X-factor about her and we got a bit of a taste of that during the Australian summer. I wouldnt want to play her in a Fed Cup tie. Shes an amazing addition and shell thrive on it. She loves to play for her country. Barty (pic tured), who was also 16 years old when she made her Fed Cup debut almost five years ago and will celebrate her 21st birthday while in Serbia, said the pressure of the international womens team competition was different to that of traditional tournaments. She said she and her fellow teammates including world No.27 Daria Gavrilova and captain Alicia Molik would be on hand for Aiava should she need it. Everyone is able to give advice, Barty said. Shes got all of those players who have played Fed Cup before. I know what it felt like in my first tie. I played away in my first tie as well. Des will have a lot of support. Were confident in her and shell do well no matter what. Its always a challenging thing playing away from home, but thats what its all about. Its probably the biggest pressure youll ever face, but its a hell of a lot of fun. Theyre the best weeks of the year. The team has spent the past few days training in Melbourne after a lengthy block of tournaments, including in Malaysia where Barty collected her first WTA title. You miss that training and itching feeling to get out and get a bit better, she said. Theres only so much you can do in tournament weeks when youre trying to prepare, so its been nice to come back and feel sore and a bit sorry for myself in getting the work done. You certainly feel better after it. Australia must beat Serbia to retain its place in World Group II, with Barty relishing the do-or-die nature of the tie. LAUREN WOOD
