Wednesday, 17 May 2017 Term 2, Week 5 RE News: Learning in Faith and Love Year A, Cycle 1 Fifth Week of Easter St Marys Mini Vinnies St Vincent de Paul Love the poor. Honour them, my children, as you would honour Christ himself As You are aware, we have established a Saint Marys Mini Vinnie working team to help ensure we all play our part in continuing the work of Blessed Frederic Ozanam, founder of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The focus for this term is on; The Homeless As a team, we have decided, that on Thursday 15 June, 2017, all students are invited to come to school dressed from St Vinnies. What this means is that we are encouraging students to go into their local St Vinnies and purchase an item of clothing from St Vinnies and come to school dressed in this item of clothing! If you choose not to do this, we kindly ask all children to bring along a gold coin donation then. (That way, we are helping out the St. Vincent de Paul society both ways; buy either purchasing from them or donating to them!) All money raised will be given to help the homeless. The other initiative we have decided to do is to hold a Second Hand/Pre-loved drive, where families can clean out their wardrobes and bring along to the school any unwanted item of clothing, toys, kitchen items, books etc. (Please no electrical items) We kindly ask that these items are still in good condition as they will be someones new treasures! Each classroom will have a box where the items can be donated starting from next Wednesday 24 May. This drive will last until Thursdays 15 June. OLSH Liturgy The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Sister have had a long and active tradition here in Darwin. In fact, in our school logo, the M Representing Mary, our mother; Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and the OLSH nuns founded St Marys school in 1908. Friday 26 May, we will celebrate Feast day with a special liturgy at 8:45 am in the Mary Mackillop hall. You are all kindly invited to attend. Sacramental ProgramPlease remember to keep our Sacramental children in your thoughts and prayers as they embark in this wonderful spiritual journey. Colin McDonnell, REC
