Abstract

"This thesis investigates visitor motivations for climbing or not climbing, and visitors’ responses to the Anangu request. It uses a cultural geography approach encompassing historical research and a survey of park visitors to examine the way that the landscapes of Uluru and of the climb are imagined, produced, read and experienced. This research has specific application in informing climb management at Uluru. Its findings may also be applicable to understanding how visitors respond to management for Indigenous cultural heritage values more generally." - Abstract,
