Katherine Times ADVERTISING SPORT Proudly sponsor ing the 2014 Northern Terr i tory Sports Awards in Kather ine on March 29. THE dry season is on its way, the fields are ready, the balls are pumped up and no doubt the players are ready but unfortunately due to a lack of volunteers, there may be no junior soccer in Katherine in 2014. The Katherine Football Association held their AGM last Saturday, but due to a very disappointing turnout of parents, the future of jun ior soccer in Katherine is in doubt. There were 228 registered junior players last year, and the 2013 season was very successful. To make it just as successful this year, the club needs parents to put up their hands to help. The club needs a committee of at least ten people, plus coaches, managers and volunteers. The entire infrastructure is in place. The club is financially viable, there are uniforms, nets and balls ready to go, the club just needs people who are prepared to put in a bit of time and effort to give all the soccer-loving kids in Katherine a chance to play. With the success that we had in 2013 and the opportunities that are opening up for our players to participate at representative level, it doesnt make sense that more parents arent stepping in to help support their children, Katherine soccer Clubs Lisa Dawes said. There will be another attempt to hold the AGM at 10am on Saturday, March 22, down at the soccer grounds. If sufficient numbers do not turn up, then unfortunately Katherine soccer will fold.
