Wednesday, 16 November 2016 Term 4, Week 6 Dear Families We extend a warm welcome to Fr Tom who is joining our community while Fr Miguel is away assisting at St Francis of Assisi parish. Thank you to Fr Tom who was our celebrant at our Remembrance Day Liturgy last Friday and congratulations to Mrs Jo Christie and our Defence children for coordinating such a prayerful and meaningful service. Our guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel Mark Baldock inspired us as he shared his thoughts on the significance of Remembrance Day and what it means to him as a father and soldier. Reconciliation: Congratulations to the many students from St Marys who made their Sacrament of Reconciliation on Monday this week. Special thanks to Mrs Megan Pearce and Fr Miguel who did a wonderful job leading the students and families in their preparation for this sacrament. Cultural Exhibition: Another highlight this week was the Year 3/4 Cultural Exhibition in the OLSH Library which showcased the brilliant Inquiry work that our students in Year 3/4 have been doing this term. I was extremely impressed with the quality and detail in the work that was presented by our students. Well done and special thanks to our Teachers-Miss Tagan and Miss Duncan. Parent Survey: Help needed! Please assist with our 2017 school improvement planning by completing our Parent Survey, accessed via the link below. The survey should only take 5 minutes of your time and will provide us with valuable information to inform our future directions. https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/Dd7StQqe Please print the last page of the survey so that your child can receive a voucher from the canteen. Bakers Delight, Darwin are supporting our school with our fundraising efforts by supplying freshly baked products including Christmas tarts and Hot cross buns for our school at a special price. Families can participate in this fundraising initiative by ordering Bakers Delight Christmas tarts using the order form that will be sent home today. St Marys school will receive $2.00 from the sale of each Christmas tart order. The closing date for orders is Friday 25th November. Parents and Friends: Many thanks to our Parents and Friends Association who have donated $300 towards each classroom to enable the purchase of new teaching resources for classrooms. Teachers are very excited to be able to use these funds to build on their existing classroom literacy and numeracy resources. BYOD Parent Session: A reminder that our BYOD and Cybersafety parent information session will take place on Tuesday 24th November at St Marys Catholic Primary school in the Mary MacKillop Hall, 5.00pm. All welcome. Farewell to Yuvaan Pala (room 3) and family and Sanna Curwen-Walker (room 6) and family who leave our school community this week. https://www.schoolsurvey.edu.au/s/Dd7StQqe
