Cricket Australia (CA) made a strong decision to pull out of their Test tour of Bangladesh in October last year, Aussies ISIS target Report says attack on national cricket team planned after receiving information regarding a credible security threat in the country. The details of that threat have remained confidential. However, The Daily Mail is now reporting chilling details that claim the Australian Gov ernment had learned of an ISIS plan to attack the Australian team in Dhaka at an organised official reception with their Bangladesh counterparts. Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has not shifted from its original position that the threat made was against Australian nationals in Bangladesh, rather than the Australian cricket team itself. Its understood players were not meant to attend the official function in question. CA made the swift decision to withdraw Steve Smith and his men from the tour, and a short time later, extremists attacked and murdered an Italian tourist in the city. We stand by our decision to postpone tours to Bangladesh due to serious concerns about the safety and security of the Australian team and officials, said a CA spokesperson. We will continue to monitor advice from ASIO, DFAT and our own security advisers about the security risk for any future tours of the Australian team in Bangladesh and make a decision based on this advice closer to any potential tour.
