News 04 SUN NEWSPAPERS, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 NTNE01Z01DS - V1 AN eight-week fitness challenge has been set in the new neighbourhood of Breezes Muirhead. Facilitator Judy Tipper said, so far, sessions had been a smashing success. The program was initiated to promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and to engage and connect residents, she said. Weve chosen to provide a variety of different fitness sessions, including, FamilyFit, Yogalates, Boxercise and Bootcamp, to accommodate for our diverse community and enable all our residents to have the opportunity to participate, Ms Tipper said. Providing the residents with fun, relaxed and engaging activities enables connections to be made, friendships to develop and a strong social network within the Breezes Muirhead community. Resident Janice Tonna has been participating in the program with 10-year-old daughter Ashantai Tonna, sixyear-old daughter Skye Tonna and 14-year-old niece Imala Nossan Leite. Ms Tonna described the program as intense. Its great, we enjoy it, she said. I signed up because I think it is important to challenge yourself and to do something active with the kids. Pumped up for a new gym FITNESS fanatics of Stuart Park can rejoice, with a new gym on the way. The site of the former Salvation Army Stuart Park store on the Stuart Hwy will soon be home to a new fitness centre, after plans were passed through the Development Consent Authority earlier this month. The new centre will be a branch of gym chain F45, which gained attention after celebrities such as Hugh Jackman tapped into the training centres workout programs. F45, short for Functional 45, is a program structured around high-intensity 45-minute group classes. The Darwin branch of F45 has been given the go-ahead by the DCA pending a number of conditions. The owner of the land must enter into agreements with the relevant authorities for the provision of water supply, sewerage facilities and electricity, one condition read. Reasons for allowing the decision included that the gym would not have a major impact on car parking space. It was stated in the DCA conclusion that because the gym would have low staff numbers, it meant there is very little burden on facilities in the area. Earlier in the year it was reported that a price war had broken out in the region due to the high number of gyms in the Darwin and Palmerston area. In March, Time Out owner Peter Fadelli told NT News there were just eight gyms when he bought his five years ago. People are attracted to the new shiny gyms when they open, he said. We do see a bit of membership churn each month ... When I first bought the gym there were eight others now there at least 18 physical gyms. A Facebook page has been set up for F45 Darwin, which simply reads, coming soon without an exact opening date.
