22 FRONTIER FASHION & BEAUTY SUNDAY FEBRUARY 14 2016 NTNE01Z01MA - V1 THE LOOK Territory rig RED HOT Its bold, its beautiful and its the colour of the season. If you think you cant wear it, think again. From dresses and jewellery to shoes and bags, it comes in all shapes and sizes georgina mollard georgina murphy Fashion F OR the romantics among us, the colour red symbolises action, energy and passion. It is also said to assert authority. Pink is the tone of love, red the colour of lust. Its been the hallmark of brands for decades and, in the fashion world, the red sole of the high-end Louboutin heel or red Valentino box is just as iconic as Tiffanys hue of blue. Its the colour of choice for global brands like Target, H&M and Coca-Cola. When in doubt, wear red, exclaimed American designer Bill Blass. So this Valentines Day take a leaf out of Bills book. Audrey Hepburn has said in the past there is a shade of red for every woman. Is Audrey ever wrong? At last weeks David Jones Autumn Winter 2016 launch, models sashayed down the catwalk in a heavy dose of red and, earlier, a sea of rouge trotted along the black carpet as guests arrived. A broad spectrum of the shade was on show, from the softest of pinks in light, floaty fabrics, to rich burgundy lace and crimson-coloured, cut-out gowns. At Mondays Super Bowl, Lady Gaga went uncharacteristically demure (slightly) and wrapped herself in a deep red, glittering pantsuit, sparkling on stage. To start seeing red, consider the shade that suits your skin tone, hair colour and personality best. Look to the occasion youre dressing for and dare to dominate with red, or add the colour through your accessories. For the bold, try colour blocking with a bright yellow, electric blue or green, wearing multiple solid colours at once. To tone it down, pair an all-red top with a black, navy or white bottom (or vice versa). Pair a pattern with red alongside something complementary in the same shade. Jazz up a black ensemble with a red blazer or cape. Erring on the side of caution and prefer to see the red in your cellar and not your wardrobe? Accessorise. Dust off the red heels Dorothy (of Wizard of Oz fame), wrap yourself in a scarf or adorn yourself with jewels. D REAMING of full, naturallooking lashes without the maintenance, I went to find out what the latest craze is all about. Eyelash extensions are single lashes applied individually to your own lashes, to give you fullness and thickness. You can choose how natural or dramatic you want to go. Cruelty-free synthetic mink or silk lash extensions truly open your eyes without you having to wear mascara or use eyelash curlers. You simply wake up, brush them and you have thick, full lashes. Most woman dont have enough time to apply mascara every morning, never mind strip lashes. So its no wonder lash extensions are so popular. After seeing so many clients lashes after theyve had extensions applied, I was eager to try them. Lianne Appleby, owner of Loveli Allure, came highly recommended. I had my reservations about extensions, but Lianne talked me through the different sizes and curls I could choose from. She recommended what size and type would suit my eye shape as my lashes are quite straight, she recommended a curl. Lianne allows an hour for the treatment and talks you through your after care while she works. After the treatment you cant let water get on your lashes for up to 24 hours, to allow the glue to set. You receive a complementary eyelash brush to use each morning. The lashes will last for up to four weeks, and you can come back and have infills, which will also take an hour, as Lianne likes to remove any loose lashes and apply new ones where needed. When you want them removed do not take it in to your own hands, as the results can be awful, with you losing lashes. Book back in and your lash artist will remove them professionally. The results speak for themselves. Ive now cut the time it takes to get ready and, even if Im not wearing any makeup, my lashes open my eyes without the need for mascara or lash curlers. I would highly recommend giving Lianne a visit. Her salon is stunning and her professionalism is second to none. The cost for a full set of lashes is $100. Liannes salon is in Coconut Grove.
